So there I was, in the summer of '07, driving solo around the country for two
months on a sort of "What's Next, Lord?" spiritual journey...checking out
faith-based radio stations across the country, touring a few seminary campuses,
visiting friends and family, and experiencing many places I'd never been...and
blogging all about it on MySpace. To take the trip, I'd quit my great job at
Premiere Radio Networks in Los Angeles, where I was one of the producers for a
nationally syndicated overnight Country music show. I was born in L.A., and for
38 years had never been away for more than two weeks; but I left my job,
friends, and apartment behind, and set out trusting God to lead me where He
wanted me next.
Nearing the end of my amazing trip, while visiting my father in the Eastern Time
Zone, I got a call from the big boss of my former company, Kraig. He said there
was a producing project on the Delilah show and they wanted me to come out to
the Big Shoe Box (BSB) and maybe even join the staff full time. I knew this was
the Providence of God in evidence, because my trip funds were running low and
I'd been planning to head back home to L.A. to try to pick up hours at my old
job, planning to save for a future at seminary. And other than one year I lived
with my sister in Orange County, and the four years I lived on-and-off campus at
USC (Class of '91, School of Theater, FIGHT ON!), I'd never lived further than
two miles from LAX. Now I had a great opportunity in a new city. Lord, I see you
working!
So after talking to Kraig about the job, and praying about it, I called Toni,
one of the producers and the chief engineer here at the BSB with whom I'd worked
in Los Angeles. We talked for about a half an hour, with me trying to get a
sense of what it was like at the Big Shoe Box, the job and the staff. It was a
fantastic and encouraging conversation that basically boiled down to:
Me: Is it cool there?
Toni: Yes.
So I'm here! Now by 'cool' I didn't mean the climate, but some adjusting to the
temperature change has been necessary (let's just say there's more 'weather'
here than in L.A.). I enjoy getting to know my new coworkers, except Eric
(kidding, running joke). More than anything I'm excited for the new opportunity
in a new city and am getting involved in a church fellowship community here. I'm
so blessed. I'm telling ya, people: God is Good.
Fun Facts:
Though born and raised in Los Angeles, I played ice hockey for 11 years (before
Gretzky came). I started skating when I was 4, playing when I was 5.
Myself, nephew Thomas, and brother-in-law Darin.
I have one sister and brother-in-law, and a nephew and niece. Beyond them, I
have tons of nieces and nephews from friends, and a huge family of cousins.
Every year on the 4th of July we gather in the mountains of Big Bear, CA for a
family reunion.
Sister Kim holding my niece Taylor, Darin behind Thomas, father Don behind his
partner Rebecca, and some weird guy.
I was baptized in the Pacific Ocean at Santa Monica Beach in 2002. I praise God
for that…and for big towels.
I used to play a lot of poker, both tournaments and side games, and have even
made some final tables in some 250+ people tournaments. At the final table of an
ESPNRadio celebrity charity tournament. I placed 6th out of 333 people, and we
raised over $25,000 for cystic fibrosis.
When I'm Not Working, I'm:
Studying scripture, listening to podcasts of sermons, listening to music,
serving at church, writing, chatting with friends on internet message boards,
and watching TV (though I have cut down a lot on that over the last few years),
or playing poker or bowling.
Some Of My Favorite Quotes:

God, who loved me and gave himself for me. ~ Galatians 2:20
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind
regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for
your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others ~ Philippians
2:3-4
The supreme happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved. ~ Victor
Hugo
There is nothing that can be done with anger that cannot be done better
without it. ~ Dallas Willard
