Meet ‘Angels of the Night’ Kim and daughter Brandice Lewis!
My daughter Brandice and I decided to help the Red Cross in aiding the victims of hurricane Katrina.
We arrived 6 days after the hurricane. She was sent to Gulfport to drive a truck delivering much needed supplies to the victims, while I was sent to the Florida panhandle to help open service centers and assist in the shelters there for the hundreds of evacuees. I was there for three weeks and Brandice for 10 days.
Our experience was bitter sweet in that we both saw the over-whelming destruction left by this monster hurricane but, on the flip side, we were touched by the hundreds of people we meet who had lost most or all of everything they owned.
They were polite and kind and almost ashamed to need any help. We felt very gratified in helping anyone and everyone that we could and always wishing we could do more. One thing we learned was that "one person can make a difference".
We are now packing to leave for Florida once again, this time for hurricane Wilma. We go with willing hands and earnest hearts!
